Fake "Liberation Of" Campaign Medal Documents.

Hi Marc,

I have a lot to learn about these items being a relatively new collector. Apart from only the family name being applied what else (specifically) makes you suspicious i.e. how is this document different from the Victory over Germany document you also looked at for me.

I would appreciate your guidance as this will then get my eye in for the future.

As I mentioned before, I don't like the paper and the poor quality of printing. I can't say that the document is bad for sure, but these cast a serious doubt for me.

I also don't like the paper, but that may be as a result of the scan. The single last name entry is suspicious but the biggest alarm is raised by the BLUE ink. It wasn't around in 1946.

Are you referring to the ink of the writing, the stamp or both?
I'm simply wondering which you were talking about.

The stamp seems to match the writing in the bottom right-hand corner, while the writing including the family name seems to be different.

"Blue-black" ink was definitely around in 1946 as general writing ink - do most Soviet documents simply not use blue ink? Just wanted to better understand your point.

The only blue ink is the one used for writing in the name and the date; it looks like ballpoint, which was not around in 1946. The stamps use purple ink.

Yes, the blue ink appears to be ballpoint, but even so the preeminent color of ink was black. Also, blue ink from that time would be faded, unlike the pictured sample.

Thanks for the clarification - the idea of it being ballpoint makes sense. I guess I just wasn't picking up on it. Do you often use such comparison in the writing to judge the quality of these award documents, beyond the obvious I mean?

I agree the ink does appear to be rather clear and "fresh" but you wouldn't always be able to use that as a clear indicator since we don't know the condition of storage and use of the document - right?

Interested to see all the discussion this has caused.

Attached are:

1. A scan of the date - definitely blue but no indentation on paper as often seen with ballpoint (Fake?). Signature of awarder (purple; real?).

2. A scan of the pencil note on other side of document - can anyone please tell me what this says?

Is it possible that this is a real document which was signed but not issued (with a name and date applied later)?

The card seems to be about the same thickness as others I have but the "manilla" colour is lighter.
