Felix,
I am not sure about the medal, for whatever reason I can't open his auction. Nayway, this guy has an "interesting" inventory for sure. He must have been able to purchase every single NKVD ID in existence from their original owners to be able to offer so many of them. By the way, have a look at the recent thread about the fake Stalingrad document, he happened to be the seller. After that, you can freely make up your mind about him and his offerings. Marc |

Thanks Marc, I know the reputation of this seller. He's not the only one to sell this medal with the booklet, I just put his auction as an example. I find odd to find this booklet time to time on ebay.

Felix,
If I accurately compute, this medal should have been issued about 1989, which is roughly speaking when the regime changed. It may have been manufactured in fairly large numbers, then stashed away due to political changes. With the coalition intervention in Afghanistan, it is conceivable that someone pulled them out of retirement and started selling them, hence becoming available. It may sound reasonable, but this is only my guess. Marc |

Unfortunately, you and I know that things which simply do not make sense ARE being faked. That being said, I don't believe that it would be the case here. Marc |

"10th Anniversary of the Saur Revolution"
Thats sadly very true Marc sometimes medals you would never expect to be faked are. I don't really think that this brass medal is in too much demand at the moment as Eric mentions however anything is possible.
I woudn't have reason to belive that it is a fake though. Just out of interest this is one of only two anniversary medals ever issued by the afgans before the collapse. Its official name is the "10th Anniversary of the Saur Revolution" medal. regards Eddie.

In my opinion the medal itself is genuine. My problem is the booklet. Is it the real deal or just a reprint to increase the value of the set ?

Felix,
In all honesty unless someone can read Dari and or has an original actually in his collection to compare with these blank ones it is very hard to say. To me it could be a menu from an afgan resturant  If Marcs therory is correct there would obviously be a lot of blank award docs too. Sorry not to be able to help more at the moment, i'm sure in time more info will become availiable and the solution will be found. Best regards Eddie
