With all due respect, they do fake it very convincingly, especially on HSLs and HSUs.

Re: Extreme wear

Here is one connecting ring on a merit medal that didn't have many parades left in it. It is so worn that if looked on from above, it has a clear waist. But it is still hanging in there.

Re: Extreme wear

Wowzers! That's about as worn out as it can possibly get.
Kinda strange the other two rings show little wear.

Re: Extreme wear

Yes, indeed.
But I have seen this on other combat and bravery medals (this is a merit medal of the brass suspension and connecting ring type). It would probably be possible to explain with tribology. Brass against silver must give high wear on the brass. Don't know why.

Don't show any sign of it being opened or replaced for at least the last 50 years or so, most likely longer.

Different metals wear and wear out differently. Is that keeping it simple?

Enamel Repairs

Hello, I have been thinking about this also. Personally, I have never been concerned about damaged awards. For me, all damaged awards aaaaaare COMBAT worn awards. However, comments have beens previously made about getting repairs/replacements done.

Ok, seems to me that one really needs to know what the hell they are doing to replace the enamel well. Seems to me that this is a very specialized field-that one cannot get this done at just any jewellry store. Am I correct in these assumptions? Furthermore, for the sake of discussion, what would the cost be to have the enamel replaced on all 5 points of a Red Star?
