New ribbon bar
I got this in the mail today. It's an eBay win. Got it at a good price (less than $15?).
I like it cuz: It's got two orders (and a CSm) It's a WW2 vet; Germany and Japan (no campaign medals though :( ) All the ribbons are in the correct order (:D) It's got a Veteran of the Armed Forces medal as opposed to the *much* more common labor vet medal. The guy was in for a long, long time. Can anyone identify the bottom ribbon please? It looks to be paper, not textile like the rest. I also tried some shots of the side of the bar to show the 'D' shaped plastic thingees. The reverse is of a tin type substance with the yucky but functional soldered-on saftey pin. BTW, I wore this for a couple hours at work today. Only one comment. ;)

Ribbon color variations
As I was getting ready to mount my new CSM I noticed the center stripe was different than the other two CSMs I have.
So here are the three, with a DLM for comparison. Do you think the color difference is due to fading or just a color variation in later manufacturing materials? I notice the two CSM ribbon bar ribbons are not quite the same as well.

Lower right (left image) has wrong ribbon...
I'd say you have a DL ribbon on a CSM for the one on the lower right of the left image (or lower left of right, reversed image).
I've seen quite a few that were so faded you could hardly tell the CSM from the DL. Usually if I peel back the ribbon a bit to view the portion not exposed to the elements for so many years, I'll see a different, less faded set of colors that usually tells the truth of what the ribbon actually is. ...Brian |

I´ve had this ribbon bars since some time ago (they´re not the made-up ones of the upper post). I´ve been thinking about their proper display on uniforms. My guess is that the large one is for an AF General, but there is this GPW/Warsaw one that looks odd. Veteran´s home-made perhaps?
Whatever, let me know your ideas about in which kind of uniform would these bars look nice. I have some thoughts but I prefer second (experienced) opinions from you. Thanks

Upper middle: Is this an all-cloth piece? The awards would go with a pre-1945 uniform, not sure if all-cloth ones were used though, should have pin-back attachment.
Left side upper: Colonel, retired from long service, 1970s. Left side lower: General rank, ground forces, long service, 1980s. Service uniform. Right side upper: Postwar captain or major, early-mid 1980s. Service uniform. Right side middle: War veteran in service, seen several similar bars, probably a common "group" of awards. Joined late in war, service postwar. Circa 1970. For service uniform. Right side lowest: Ribbon bar for civil jacket, postwar veteran not in service after war duty. |

another one
Here's another variation. Currently on E. Pretty nice. I'd take a flier on it with the idea of restoring it but for the Belgrade on the end; too pricey that.

Re: Producer / Factory marks on suspension
I have always seen the "Peace" mark on cockardes and aluminium screwplates for suspensions and guards badges.
Never seen the other marks before.
