Do you think China has abandoned the concept of awarding medals?
China has the largest military in the world and it probably has the least number of medals awarded, if they still even do it. See this video and decide. (you must have realplayer installed. It is in a zip file due to forum restrictions.) Note the generals (the guys in double breasted garb) have not one single medal. So sad:cry:, and it had to happen to my motherland...

During the days of socialism, they had rejected most of this, but now that capitalism has taken over, they are getting almost as bad as Taiwan.

Medals awarded in factories
I'm not sure China has "abandoned" the concept of awrding medals to military forces.
But, what is sure is that China is awarding medals to workers and staff in factories or entreprises. Last time I was in China, in November 2006, during a visit of a local factory in Zuhai (South East of China), I have been given a box with a medal supposed to be awarded to the "meritorious worker" or something like that... Of course, it is not an "official" one, but one made by commercial companies; not bad by the way, and designed in a style quite similar to official ones. These are "awarded" inside companies for motivation and rewarding staff. Another result of capitalism developing in China ? As soon as I have found it, I'll post a pic of this medal. Cheers. Ch. |

Red China has always been scace when it came to awarding medals and orders, hence their rarity and their related price.
I believe that they are simply keeping up in this same direction. Marc |
