Czechoslovak General's Uniform Question

Hi everyone!

I got this nice Czechoslovak Lieutenant General's uniform. Now I've been trying to find out who it may have belonged to based on the ribbon bar, but I haven't had any luck. So, does anyone here happen to know who the uniform belonged too? Maybe someone has a picture? I believe based on the ribbon bar it should be possible to identify the jacket when compared to a photo.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Czechoslovak General's Uniform Question

Unfortunately these awards were handed out far too frequently to be able to pinpoint the recipient.

The award ribbons are completely out of order but are;

Commemorative Medal "40th Anniversary Of The Liberation Of Czechoslovakia".
Medal "For Strengthening Brotherhood In Arms" 2nd Class.
Medal "30 Years Of SNB".
Order Of Klement Gottwald For Building The Socialist Homeland.
Commemorative Medal For The 50th Anniversary Of The Czech Communist Party.
Commemorative Medal "25th Anniversary Of Victorious February".

I'll have some as yet unposted Czechoslovak awards to post later in the year.

Re: Czechoslovak General's Uniform Question

I know they are common awards and that's why I was hoping that someone may know who's they are. I doubt there were that many lieutenant generals with such few awards. And actually, the one you listed as the Klement Gottald Order is a Merits in National Defense missing the silver disc. I do have the feeling the jacket and it's components could have been worn this way. In other words, that the uniform hasn't been tampered with.

Actually, from what I know, they were supposed to be worn in the chronological order - so the first awarded goes first, the second goes second... So even a highest order's ribbon may be the last on the rack.

Not sure whythey decided to doit that way, but a friend of mine who collects czechoslovak uniforms, says it's always a problem, especially if the officer was awarded foreign medals as well.

I am afraid it may be a problem to identifythe general. First thing to do would be to identify the timeframe - the uniform may have the stamp with production date. Than we just have to find out how many lt.-generals were there in the C'SLA a year or two afterwards, locate their photographs and compare the ribbons. Even if the man wears less ribbons on the picture, their order will remain unique to this particular recipient. The only probem is that I have absolutely no idea as to where to look for the list of C'SLA generals, not to mention their photographs.
The best way may be to ask on czech militaryhistory forums.
