hello Marc and Tretov, I do have the book, it is about 1989 regulations...one should bear in mind these drawings have only educationnal goals and stand therefore for example. If you compare the drawings in the nice 1969 book, some drawings are identical, but slightly modified to comply with rules evolution...for example the medals worn in diagonal then switched to horizontal display...and for marschals of SU, they're full up to the throat of medal in 1969 (Joukov has just died few month ago), in 1988 the MSU has less medals...like the marschals of 1989 who were not of the fighting generation (they didn't know the war as high-ranking commanders).

the definitive clue in my opinion: the drawing are here to show ditsance and displaying for the greater majority of sutuations...not a lot of militaries in active duty in 1988 could display more of 2 raows of mledals. And if necessary, the rules between 2nd and 3rd rows are the same than between 1st and 2nd...
For veterans coverred of pins and jubilees medals we know they tooks liberties about displaying, and very high ranking generals followed too exceptions for displaying kilos of metal!

Having read the book (translation by otlichnik, Thanks!), no specific "wear this one but not that" has been found. :(

Tretov,

I am not surprized at all by your find; it goes along the lines of what Sebastien was explaining and to which I fully subscribe.

Hi Forum Members,

I would be really interested in seeing more of these "plastic suspension" medals or bars.

Do you have some, in the same style - or different - of the one I posted ?

Please, post.

Cheers.

Ch.

Medal Bar

Sorry, not military... is that OK? Sorry, no documents with this bar. Close-ups upon request. I am not looking for verification of authenticity of these Orders and Medals, but...

...comments on precedence, etc. welcome:

I believe the order should be:

Red Banner of Labor
Badge of Honor
Move Lenin centenial to the back.

Rusty.

Rusty is correct, except I believe the Lenin centennial was never meant to be worn in this fashion. The centennial medal was always on top of all other awards and next to HSU/HSL (if awarded) on the top-left side of the wearer's chest.

I believe that the centennial medal does not belong on this suspesion at all.

It would be worn separately.

Thanks,

ET

I agree as well that the centenial is not mounted with the regular medals per the regs but there are pics of people wearing it with regular medals.

Ribbon Bars

Another question: how common are Soviet (or other nations) ribbon bars and are they easy to find?

More questions to come :)
