Re: Translation Help
Thank you! One more, this is all I am able to decipher despite the wonderful calligraphy. . .

Re: Translation Help
That's the 12th Exploitative Railway Order "Red Star" Regiment. The missing word is "эксплуатационный".

Very good!
One thing. Auke will correct me if i'm wrong :) But i would say the 12th Order of the Red Star Railway Operation/management Regiment. The abbreviation of эксплуатации is hidden by the stamp. Why would a railway regiment be exploitative? |

Re: Translation Help
Exploits as in "actions", "feats" or "operations" (not abusing Shocklabourers). These chaps will no doubt be at the front of an advance laying or relaying track as quickly as possible. There are some researched awards for such actions in the corner.

Re: Translation Help
I agree with Tom, this is exploitation as in regular operation, usage. Could be right behind the front line but also in the rear.

Re: Translation Help
Whilst working as as head of supplies, he carried out numerous tasks from the command in the organization of locomotive equipment:
1. From December 1944 to January 1945 during a period of intensive freight traffic at Lukov station he organized smooth resupplying for up to 50 locomotives per day. 2. During the movement to the west with the front, he organized the supply of locomotives to Warsaw by ensuring the advancement of trains from the fueling station at Kutno. 3. In the depot at Noj Benchen he resupplied up to 40 locomotives per day. Thanks to the initiative shown by applying a captured electric-crane he has managed to reduce the maintainance time of steam locomotives by 30%, thereby reducing this to 2 days. |

Re: Translation Help
Thank you, gentlemen, for your thoughts. I found the citation for his Order of the Red Star you were kind enough to translate, Tommy.

Re: Translation Help
It's a great doc btw--awarded w medal on May 8 1945, so spirits must have been high. Colonel Ponomarenko would get his Hero of the Soviet Union star later in the month, so you have a HSU signature there. Always great. https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F...B2%D0%B8%D1%87
