Air Force

A rare "Red Air Force Officer".

Note the almost identical (to the NKVD and Frontier Troops) cap!

NKVD Frontier Troops

Same cap, same "ridge" buttons, etc.

I love the 1937 stamp on the very postwar belt!

Doug,

These caps are current local St Petersburg production; I personally know the "artist".

caps

marc,

Yes, they seem to be from that area (though i have also heard the same thing from someone in Kiev), though most make their way to Estonia and Latvia before coming over here...i remember going to the dacha of one of these artists and there were caps on each fence post for "weathering"!

Imagination indeed! :thumbsup

Those NKVD Bottle Boards for the Border Troops prolly originate from the mind, and same pair of busy hands that created NKVD field type bottleboards. :laff

Re: Warning: Reproductions!

Well, even though I know its been pronounced as part of Canon Law by some 'experts' that the NKVD Bottle style boards did not exist in field form (just service), I think they did (and I had a set I felt and still feel were quite genuine)...must make me a heretic to those "priests"...wonder why it bothers them so much? Hmmm...

Glad we can disagree without sounding too self-important on such a little topic. Sorry if I don't add any silly little icons.

Anyway, glad you like the Border Bottle Boards I posted.

Who in the right mind would question existence of state security “Bottle style” field boards, when they clearly described with pictures in NKVD regulations? Those self proclaimed "experts" just jealous of you. I guess because most people never won lottery or did it once in a life time. You are on other hand hitting jackpot on regular bases. As far as border guards are concern, even naval boarder guards’ shoulder boards were supposed to be “Bottle style”. Despite the fact that nobody have seen real ones yet, photographic evidence proofs that “Bottle style” border guards’ boards were not only on paper.

Re: Warning: Reproductions!

I did not know that the Border Troops / Naval Border Troops were to have the bottle boards; that's interesting (even though I do not think the set shown on e-bay is close to genuine; at least they are copying real items).

As for the lottery, I guess if that is how you look at it, but I think the set I had were good and not a modern DDA style repro set. If others do not agree, or think they did not even exist, thats up to them..they spend quite a bit of time worried about what others think.

Good regulation information.
