Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
Nice. There's something about cold steel in general and the design of those shashkas that makes ya want them. Kinda like silver, goldplate and enamel. :)
I'd like one of those general purpose shashkas that has the bayonet mounted to the scabbard. Two for the price of one. ;)

Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
From what I remember, even back in '95, these were heavy duty items, award sabers, etc...I remember one being $10k, not sure the other. Should have gotten more info; I just thought it was a good pic that should be archived here!

Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
Eric,
These are not exactly your run-of-the-mill shashkas. They are actually presentation/reward weapons, and extremely rare as such. Marc |

Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
Marc,
Did I read somewhere that only 20 (or was it 200) award/presentation weapons were given for recipients of the Order of the Red Banner? Just wondering if I read that somewhere, imagined it or ???

Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
The bottom saber was a Red Banner award saber...somewhere I had the name of the guy it was awarded to, but have since lost track of it...that was the $10k saber (now looks like a bargain!)...the other was a lesser award saber, but as far as I remember also named.

Re: Nice Old Red Army Sabers
10k for that saber is a bargain..! The famous NJ dealer is offering for 12k the document for such kind of saber! :D
I think Art I have your answer: "..21 Revolutionary Honor Edged Weapons with the RSFSR Red Banner ever issued.." (also from NJ website!) :thumbsup
