I have a 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Ukraine Badge awarded to Zinaida Fedorova. What were the award requirements? Any other information would be appreciated.:thumbsup :thumbsup

Doc,

I believe everybody, who was registered with local voenkomats (Military Comissariats) as WWII veteran, i.e. recipients of the Victory or Valiant Labor During the War medals, received one of these badges.

2 Badge "50 Years Of The Liberation Of Ukraine".

Heavy brass badge, pin back with what looks like 3 crowns makers mark on the back.

Any help to identify this is much appreciated.

Brendan:)

re: 50th anniversary of the liberation of Ukraine

I think it's actually for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Ukraine. I've got an example or two of the doc floating around. The one in front of me now was dated 10 March '94. It belonged to that dude I noted in a different post who was reported killed, and then live on into the 1990's or later.

Brian,

That would probably sound right. Now, was this badge ever enameled, or was it issued like that?

re: 50th anniversary of the liberation of Ukraine

The ones I've seen have had a fairly heavy patina/tarnish, but have had enamel on them (but it's not a heavily enameled badge from what I remember). I can't find an actual badge right now in the house, but the doc shows red, blue, and gold/yellow as the colors. I've never seen one fully "bez enamela" (Brian's use of Russian grammar on English and Russian words ;) ).

It's not a badge I see every day, but I don't think it's hard to find. I probably run across them once or twice a month. I think I see the docs almost as often as the badges.

The one in the photo above appears to have once been enameled. It's in really rough shape for a 14 year old badge. It almost looks like it was burned at some point.
