Gold Star "Honorary Freeman Of The Mongolian People's Republic".

The Medal was "solely designed" for him, according to Dr. Battushig's book!
Quoting:
"The title was adopted by the Mongolian parliament in November 25th, 1974..." and "The award ceremony was held just on the next day of the decree issue, on November 26th. Only Mr. Brezhnev was awarded with this title. Presumably only two exemplars of the medal of the Honorary Freeman of the MPR is existent, which were hastily manufactured by the Mongolian craftsmen."

I guess that if Brezhnev wasn't the Secretary General of the Party he would have loved to be a awards collector :yow

Brezhnev was not worthy of any honour, he was the one to have his Order of Victory taken away when he died. In fact did he not give himself two Order of Victories?

Ron,

Brezhnev was awarded "only" one Order of Victory, even if I agree with you that I see no reason at all for him to deserve such honor (that's why I joke above that he might have enjoyed being a awards collector ;) ), that indeed was canceled in 1989.
Stalin was the one who awarded himself two Order of Victory.
Marshals Zukhov and Vasilevsky were also awarded two of them, but in their case they certainly deserved at least one!
IMHO at least one of these should have been awarded to Chuikov, he certainly would have deserved such honor!
And I'm sure there was at least another couple of people who might have deserved one, rather than awarding it twice to the three mentioned above!

Re: Honored Citizen of Mongolia medal

The Title "Honorary Freeman of the Mongolian People's Republic" and the accompanying Gold Star Medal (correct names) is discussed in detail in Urnukh's book, pp. 51-52. According to his professional research, two specimens were made at the Unaanbaatar Mint, one was awarded to Brezhnez and the other was retained by the State Central Bank (though, apparently, it has now "leaked", as have so many things, indeed most of our collections have that source).
