Red Banner,14201,10th Anniversary Of The Mongolian Revolution.

Just had this offered to me. Still awaiting better scans of the reverse and - keeping fingers crossed - of the award document. Serial number is 14210. Supposedly awarded to a Mongolian.

The Mongolian connection is what interests me here.

Thanks

Front looks rather convincing; back less so, but it's probably just the picture. Usually the torch ends broke off of these.

Is there any other "attachment hardware" that came with this - should be a large washer with matching serial number and a small screwback with wingnuts?

Hard to comment on the name if it is unknown. Furthermore, I don't see the need to keep the name of a Mongolian confidential that was awarded almost 80 years ago.

The picture of the reverse is better and more reassuring, but as most things I'd like to handle it first. My slight reservations on the reverse come from it appearing too clean, as well as the s/n engraving. Otherwise the "mirror" reverse, soldering style, and circular ring appear to be in line with other observed examples.

It comes with a replacement "regular" screwdisk (or whatever those little metal frisbees are called).

Sofar: (from a very reliable expert): pass on the booklet and the front looks good as well. I'm trying to find the name (with help of some others) in some books before I bite the bullet.

Should the deal come through, I'll disclose the name (equally if the deal doesn't come through). Right now though, disclosing it might contribute to the deal being "killed".

Some well educated guessing (incl using some offline info) now suggests this was an award to somebody who fought under the leadership of Sukhbaatar to achieve independence in the early 1920's. Just can't seem to get a spot on hit via google to confirm this for sure

Bob, if that's the case, the award was given some 10 years after the fact in 1930, then again, someone issued the actual booklet in 1941. Possible, but the story doesn't seem to wash.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Banner

Hmmm i thought I had made up my mind yesterday but am getting more and more data points about the person who was awarded this red banner, the other rewards he had received, etc. which lead me to seriously consider after all acquiring it. The red banner may not be picture perfect, but there appears to be a lot of meat around the bones which I can't divulge on this forum right now (hopefully I can if/when deal is completed) which do give credence to it. Discussions are now about possibly a much broader group than just this red banner... the guy who was awarded this item was not a bureaucratic keeping his desk tidy from 9-5, that I can tell you already:thumbsup:D

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Banner

I believe the order in question (14201) is genuine and so is the document. I will probably receive it for authentication and will be able to tell for sure.

Hi Alexei - I'm hoping the deal will close in my favor and I can get it in your hands for authentication. I've been provided with scans of other award documents to the recipient, photographs and also a special red banner award document relating to the awarding which is signed by Voroshilov. Apparently the superclean reverse was due to the award being glued to the uniform for a long long time. Keeping my fingers crossed. The paperwork makes it a pretty compelling story.

I didn't realize there was such a bidding war going on. Good luck!
