299th Guards Tarnopol Mortar Regiment, 10th Guards Ural Volunteer Tank Corps, 4th Tank Army Order 08/N dated 14th August, 1944

On behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet USSR, I award the following decorations for exemplary accomplishment of the Command’s missions in the struggle against the German invaders and for having displayed valor and bravery:

Bravery Medal to:

10. 1 Battalion Cook Guards Private Ivan Arkhipovich Krasnobai, who in fighting under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire on 22.07.44 near the villages of Pogoreltsy and Stanimik(?) prepared hot food for the soldiers and delivered it to the battalion’s fighting positions. On 27.07.44 while liquidating a German pocket, he killed two German soldiers with his assigned weapon.
b. 1906, Ukrainian, non-Party member. In the Red Army since 1943. No prior awards. No wounds. Inducted by Arivan(?) Chusovskii Regional Military Commissariat. [trans: home of record intentionally obscured]

Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment

From 24th-25th Apri,l 1945 northeast of the village of Gutengoru*, Comrade Krasnobai provided accurate and rapid loading of his mortar, as a result of his mortar’s fire, two enemy ammunition stores, an enemy kitchen vehicle, and as much as a platoon of enemy were destroyed, thus weakening the enemy on the far shore and hindering the advance of our units.

While under heavy enemy cannon and machinegun fire Comrade Krasnobai delivered mortar rounds, thus helping to deliver further mortar rounds upon the enemy.

On 29th April, 1945 on Vanze* island the enemy conducted two counterattacks and Comrade Krasnobai employed his skill to accurately and quickly load the mortar and suppressed two enemy machinegun positions and decimated as much as a platoon of submachinegunners.

On 2nd May, 1945 near the village of Stuken while destroying an enemy pocket, Comrade Krasnobai employed his assigned weapon to kill four German soldiers and captured six German soldiers.
He is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.
