The real gist of this particular discussion centers on whether higher asking prices should be associated with officially-issued duplicates as compared to original-issue pieces. Should your personal preference be to collect duplicates, then yes it's most certainly a matter of personal taste. If that means you're also willing to expend more to acquire a duplicate (vice an original-issue piece) that, too, is your personal choice. No argument from me here! Regards, slava1stclass |

When my son points to some bit of Soviet memoribilia in my office and asks what it's worth, the answer is always "whatever someone will pay for it".
Of course that makes him nuts although sometimes I'll relent and tell him what folks are willing to pay for it at that moment. |

Higher prices for duplicates are based on their rarity, and that's a fact. Many people collect them just because of that, and that's their choice. In my opinion, any medal by itself is just a piece of metal. It's the history behind it that I value so much. To me a duplicate of an Order of Glory holds the same connection to its heroic recipient as the "original" award, and a duplicate, that was issued to replace an order lost in combat, is certainly more valuable from the same point of view. But that's just my opinion. Alexei |

Thank you for your personal thoughts on the subject. The thing that makes this forum great is the range of perspectives our members bring to the table. When these perspectives are aired for all to contemplate, informed decisions are much easier to render. Regards, slava1stclass |

'Order of Glory' serial number
Some of the numbers on the orders of glory in my collection are hard to read depending on the skill of the engraver.
I was wondering if you guys could give me your opinion on what the number is for this glory I recently bought? The 4th & 5th digits are the ones Im unsure of. Mark |

The 5th looks like another "9". The last one is a 4.

How many 3rd's are there?
Sorry Mark to disturb your thread, I do think the last post gives the right answer but I wanted to ask a question of my own. MONDVOR website gives the total number of Glory 3rd class recepients over 990,000 but the the description of variations I've seen always stop around 750,000. That's 150K medals missing. Where are they or is this a silly question? Thanks. Sergei.
