"Sükhbaatar" Order.
I saw this medal recently and it's quite an interesting looking one. Can anyone tell me something about it, eg number issued, what it was awarded for etc? Does anyone have one? Thanks.
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

Shane,
I have none. Just to say that the Order of Sukhe-Bator is the highest decoration of Mongolian Peoples Republic, equivalent of the Soviet Order of Lenin. It has been established on 16.05.1941, with around 1700 awarded. Apparently 2 types : screwback and pin. This one is type 1. Ch. |

How is the ribbon bar of this order?
I´m planning to put it on my Generalissimus ribbon bars; part of the story...

Answer to Esteban's question :
Before 1961 the order had no ribbon but instead a special small enamelled rectangle was worn on undress uniform. Its colours were yellow (2.5 mm), light blue (3 mm), light blue/white ornament (4 mm), red (9 mm), light blue/white ornament (4 mm), light blue (3 mm), yellow (2.5 mm). In 1961 this was changed into a ribbon : blue (4 mm), white (4 mm), dark red (8 mm), white (4 mm), blue (4 mm). Ch. |

The Order of Suche Bator
This is the highest order of Mongolia and was instituted on 16.05.1941.
It was awarded to Mongolians and foreigners for military and civil services. Multiple awards were made: ---------------------------- Field-Marshal Tsedenbal, 6 times. Colonel-General Tsog, 5 times. Field-Marshal Choybalsan, a number of Mongolian generals and Field-Marshal Zhukov (USSR) received the order three times. The order brought a number of privileges to its recipients : free visits to museums, public shows, cinema, etc., free education (sometimes abroad) for their children, free hunting and fishing wherever on the Mongolian territory, including national parks and preserves. Eddie.

Just a couple of pics of a S-B screwback, my new Crown Jewel I guess :)
It seems that the screw was resoldered, but still a very nice piece! Dolf |

Hey Dolf,
Those Sukhebataars are beautiful. I hope to own one myself someday! I'm almost reaching the end of what I can afford in the Soviet area, so the Mongolian is the next big open plain. I've already got a number of nice pieces, but your collection is truly amazing! MAtt.

Hi Matt,
Mongolian Awards are indeed very beautifil. Unfortunatelly the prices are increasing as for other countries Awards :( Have you noticed the low S/N for the Screwback? #185 is probably the lowest I've ever seen! ;) And the S/N of the Pinback is a nice one too ( #2006 = the year when I'll be 50 years old :) ) and in this case the highest S/N I've ever seen for this Order! Best wishes and happy hunting! Dolf |
