Badge "Excellent Cultural Patronage Of The Armed Forces Of The USSR".

Hi

Because this is my first post on the forum I might as well introduce myself. I’m a Swedish militaria-fan, with soviet militaria as nr 1. Soviet medals and orders are not my only weakness I also collect soviet helmets, badges, photos and some other stuff… with a small Swedish ww2 collection just in case the soviet militaria dry up :)

The badge on the photos is said to be for military artist (I lost the exact description.) Has anyone seen it before? I looked threw my books and didn’t find any reference. Looks like post war with good detail and natural wear. Any ideas are welcomed!

Best Regards

Kim Johansson

I believe this badge was awarded to civilian artists who help Army with cultural life (like free concerts to army units)

Thanks as well, I always wondered what that badge was...well made, attractive and only a couple of dollars

I have only seen this badge once and snapped it up, did not know what it was, but it felt great with history.

Kim,

I have sold a similar badge recently. I think it may be from the late 1930s.

Thanks for the help all!

Chris what is the number on your badge? The photo is not that sharp.

Alexei do you remember what number the badge had? I haven't seen any other than my own before (not counting the ones on the forum). Perhaps it could give an idea on how many were issued... But it will of course be pure speculation :)

Kim,

I don't remember exactly, but it was also in 1xxx range. BTW, my badge was exactly like yours, Chris's is a little different.

I can't quite make out the writting around the shield. Can anyone tell me what it says?

I would guess that this is a distinction badge for employees of the military - bandsmen, etc. but maybe the writting tells a different tale.

I have a later version of this artist's badge (S/N 7207) that has the part with the harp attached by rivets. This is kind of unusual because in general the construction of badges became simpler with time.
