Here is my set. Silver medal with doc and s/n 79 from 1940.
Sadly no box.

I think that is the quantity issued of the large silver medal:

Do you know how the numbering system for the medals (without years) worked. Was it sequential, or did it start at zero every year?

For example, I have a small silver medal #2591. Is this an early one (i.e. 1954) or could it have come form any year (i.e. 1954-58)?

Simon, I have no clue.

The first medals have a date on the medal 1939 and 1940, the medals from 1954 have no date but a serial number, the medals from 1955 and later have no serial number and the medals 1956-58 have a different tractor (without X in the front of the tractor) on the badge.

for the record medal is a government issue.

It's the one called VDNX for 'success in agronomy' or something like that they were in classed as far as I can recall. Heavenly faked in Baltic and Ukraine.
