Gold Star "Hero Of Ukraine".

Here is a picture of Vyacheslav Boguslayev, Chairman and CEO of the Motor Sich joint stock company (Ukraine) producing aircraft engines.

What is the Gold Star he is wearing ?
It is not the actual Ukraine's Gold Star founded in 1998.
Is it a first temporary type, based on the Soviet model, made at the time Ukraine became an independent state ?
I did not find anything about this "type". Any idea ?

Looks to me like the Star of Hero of Socialist Labour with a Ukrainian ribbon.

The suspension closely resembles the HSU/HSL one.

Dear All,

I personally think this is a wearer's copy of the Hero of Ukraine title. While this medal is worn on the left breast, as you show in the photo, but the actual medals for the Order of the Gold Star and the Order of the State medals are worn on the right. It does not matter which grade of the title a person get's, they get this medal. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_of_Ukraine

He is wearing the first type of Ukrainian Hero star. Later, it assumed the round, more Ukrainian appearance you have posted.

Though what I am showing is just a drawing, I can find examples of the medal worn in public, if you want.

Zach's link has brought the answer of the reason why the Gold Star :

"In addition to the formal award, recipients of either level are given a wearer's copy for use in public. Only one design of the wearer's copy exists, being modeled after the Hero of the USSR medal with the red ribbon replaced by a blue and yellow ribbon. This medal is made out of non-precious metals and it is worn on the wearer's left-hand side above all other decorations. "

Here is now Fyodor Muravchenko, Hero of Ukraine, Designer General of Ivchenko Progress, wearing his Gold Star.

Ivchenko Progress is a State enterprise specialised in engines for helicopters and aircraft.
