I am still waiting for the hat and breeches, but the tunic arrived so I thought I'd post it. Its a rare M1943 parade generals tunic, for a named General of the Army. The name and set will be in the Schiffer book next year, so I only get to hold on to it for a week or so : (

The M1943 parade uniforms were worn after the M1940 generals parade uniform and yet was replaced in 1945 by the M1945 Victory Parade generals uniform.

Like the officers M1943 parade uniforms, generals had cuff spools, rather than cuff leaf embroidery.

General of the Army, the last rank before becoming a Marshal of the USSR.

the cuff spools, later replaced by leaf embroidery on the M1945.

copy

For theatre and film use outright fakes were made of this uniform. Here is a copy of an infantry general M1943 parade uniform; the belt is real, I only added it for the photo.

with medals

There were order holes showing the use of pre-43 orders on this M1943 parade tunic; tried to be accurate.

Doug,

When portraying such a high rank uniform it’s desirable to put combination of awards that ever existed for person with such rank, and since only few were promoted to the rank of General of the Army in 1940 – 1945 it’s not so difficult.

Parade tunic like this was in use since January(actually March) of 1943 till April(June) of 1945. Some generals continue to wear such uniforms until late 1946, but not a person with such high rank. So people who received title of Hero of Soviet Union after may 1945 would not fit, or you have to remove the gold star.

And please remove guard’s badge. General of the army can not wear guard’s badge, because Soviet union has no Guard’s fronts. General-cornels, not higher. Only two Marshals of Armor troops who were in command of Guard’s Tank’s Armies (Rotmistrov 5th Guard’s Army and Bogdanov 2nd Guards Army) were wearing Guard’s badges.

Most suitable candidate would be, not with type of awards you are portraying, but still (I’ve skipped all the awards after 1945).

Maslennikov Ivan Ivanovitch – commander of 3rd Pribaltiyskiy front, General of the Army on August 28 1944. Hero of Soviet Union May 8 1945.
Order of Lenin 1942 and 1943, Red Banner 1935, 1942 and 1944, Red Star 1940.
Suvorov 1 class 1943, Kutuzov 1 class 1943 and 1944.

Rest of the people promoted to such rank are not fitting to combination of awards you are trying to portrait.

Bagramian Ivan Khristoforovich - General of the Army on November 17, 1943 Hero of Soviet Union July 29, 1944. Order of Lenin 1944 and 1945 (Can not be screwback), Red Banner 1941, 1944, Suvorov 1 class 1943 and 1945, Kutuzov 1 class 1943.

Eremenko Andrey Ivanovich – General of the Army on August 28 1943. Hero of Soviet Union July 29 1944. Order of Lenin 1938 and 1944, Red Banner 1926, 1941 and 1944, Suvorov 1 class 1943, 1944 and 1945, Kutuzov 1 class 1943.

Tulenev Ivan Vladimirovich - General of the Army on June 04, 1940 Hero of Soviet Union February 21, 1978

Petrov Ivan Efimovitch – General of the Army on October 9 1943, Hero of Soviet Union May 29 1945.

Popov Markian Mikhailovich – General of the Army on August 26 1943 Hero of Soviet Union May 7 1965

Vatutin Nikolay Fedorovich – General of the Army on February 12, 1943. Died from his wounds on April 15 1944. Postmortems Hero of Soviet Union in 1945.

Zakharov Matvey Vasilievich – General of the Army on May 29, 1945 Hero of Soviet Union August 8 1945.

Sokolovskiy Vasiliy Danilovich – General of the Army on August 27, 1943. Hero of Soviet Union May 29 1945. Order of Lenin 1941 and 1942, Red Banner 1928 and 1944, Suvorov 1 class 1943, 1943 and 1945, Kutuzov 1 class 1943, 1944 and 1956.

Cherniakhovskiy Ivan Danilovich – General of the Army on June 26, 1944. Killed in action on February 18 1945. Two times Hero of Soviet Union 1943 and 1944.

Malinovskiy Radion Yakovlevich – General of the Army on April 28 1944, Marshal of Soviet Union September 10, 1944. Hero of Soviet Union May 8 1945

Govorov Leonid Aleksandrovich - General of the Army on November 17, 1943 Marshal of Soviet Union June 18, 1944. Hero of Soviet Union January 1, 1945

decorating

thank you for your opinion. As the uniform does not belong to you, please do not concern youreslf with how it is decorated. It is up to the owner of the uniform ( that is the buyer, not the old general) to decide how to decorate it. None of the holes were created, and since the id was not known, the client simply decorated it. I think it is better to decorate it rather than use say photo shop to create what is not there.

Thank you again,
DougD
