Wow, I thought I was just the wordy one...

Thank you Laurent for figuring this out and thanks to everyone who has helped make this the definitive forum on Soviet awards, uniforms and all around useful, trivial and interesting information.

Fellow Members,

With the 400th member, perhaps a trip down memory lane is in order. I had originally started a small forum about two years ago, it was one of those services provided by a web-based company that allowed you to setup your own message board for free in exchange for letting them place a few ads within the board. I figured it was a worthwhile trade-off and went ahead. It had a few die-hard members ( Tal Inbar was one of the members ) but overall it didn't do very well. There was a limit on the quality and quantity of the information I could contribute, and the board was not much fun to use. Their were no pictures allowed, and not nearly as many bells and whistles as the VBulletin forum software. Thus, about a year ago I started the forum you are on now with the desire of having the best collectors I could find moderate it with me.

The success of the forum is based purely on the people that contribute to it. The moderators are what make the forum truly enjoyable for everyone. Members don't get to see what goes on behind the scenes..from keeping things organized within their respective forums to keeping arguments and troublemakers under control. The moderators dedicate quite a bit of their free personal time to this forum and their importance can't be overstated.

A concise, on topic site is what we wanted from the start and we are enjoying the fruit of this mindset. The members of this forum are among the most accomplished and educated collectors on the planet. Here's to all the forum regulars that make the forum what it is. You guys know who you are. Without the great posts, we would have nothing to do

I don't have statistics which narrows down who visited the most and when, but here are the top ten posters:

1. Tal Inbar
2. Nota Bene
3. Art
4. new world
5. otlichnik
6. HuliganRS
7. charlet
8. Ed Maier
9. DougD
10. Dave

I can tell you that the website (the main site and the forum) gets an average of over 20,000 hits per day. Over 95 percent of this traffic comes from the forum. This includes everytime someone looks at a different page on the forum and isn't unique hits which is totally different. Think of it as a member who looks at one page, looks at another page, and then looks at another. This would count as 3 hits. Still alot of hits though.

As a reminder for those who were already Members of the Forum in May 2002 :
I discovered this thread in browsing the Forum : it was the good old days, when Tal and Art were celebrating the... 1000th message !!

http://soviet-awards.addr.com/forum/...=&threadid=195

Now, how many posts ? : close to 20,000 !!
Another proof of this Forum's success, in less than 18 months.

Another remark :

We all see on our screen this message :
"Most users ever online was 37 on 08-05-2002 at 01:38 AM."

What happened in August 2002 ?

* 32 new members registered : the absolute record of members joining...

* 37 members online together : since I am a Member, I have not seen more than 16 members online at the same time...

There is obviously a link between these two points. But, what else, what has been the generating fact ? Some publicity at this time ? Any idea ?

When will be the next "08.2002" ?? Long live the Forum !!

Cheers.

Ch.

Art,

Thanks for these comments. This very interesting story perfectly answers a question I had in mind for a while... Just hope that now protection and security are OK.

BTW, I'm sure we will really be more than 37 online together on a daily basis in months to come.

Thanks... and bravo.

10 days later... what to add ?

Nearly nothing... except we are now 408 members (good rhythm : nearly one new member a day)... and this post (without real new content, I agree) is the Forum's 20,000 post !!!!!

Congratulations to all contributors... and a special tribute to Art !! One more time : BRAVO !!!!!!

Cheers.

Eric,

Your Member number, amongst the 408 Members displayed by the meter ? Difficult today. You should have noticed it when you first registered... Except if Art has technical means to find it.

Your number, based on the Forum Members list (346 Members) . You are, based on this list, number 229 (just have to count...).

Finally have you been able to check the exact number of Members of the Forum ?

Are we now 411, as displayed in the front page, or 349 Members, as the Members List could let us think... And explanation of the gap ?

I agree, nor a strategic issue, but nevertheless interesting to know for future celebrations !

Cheers.

Hi to all Forum Members,

I did not know exactly where to post this... but I just wanted to celebrate my first year in this Forum !!

Effectively, I discovered the Forum exactly 1 year ago, on 13 April 2003, and immediately registered as a new Member !!

So, after 365 days searching, reading, learning, having fun... posting, also (I hope a few Members find interest in reading them !!); I would like to say a BIG BIG Bravo to Art, all the Moderators and Members, for making this place so wonderful and extraordinary.

Art, one more time, sincere Congratulations !!!

We are now 450 Members !!

Welcome to our newest Member : desantnik.

More than 3,000 threads, nearly 30,000 posts... What a success !!
One more time, congratulations to Art and all the others, Moderators, Members...
Long life this super Forum !!

Cheers.
