Medal Nahimov.

Hi!

There is a confusing information regarding the Nachimov medal - post WW2 issue.
I saw on several web sites pictures of the medal, with only a ring attaching it to the suspension - without the "anchor" top.

What say you????

Hi Tal,

From what I've gathered they were issued after the "breakup" of the Soviet Union, around 1991-1993. Which technically wouldn't make it a Soviet Medal. Sounds like a modern knock-off of the original in my opinion. I've seen them, don't know anymore about them. Sorry, perhaps someone else has more info?

Transistional Nakhimov Medal

Art is correct in stating that this is a transitional Nakhimov Medal from 1991-1993. They are made of one piece (with loop). I have seen them with and without a serial number (although I believe the "official" issue pieces have serial numbers.). The first post-Soviet Nakhimov medal was issued to Valentin Alekseevich Beichkov on or about 25 March 1993 with somewhere between 19 to 69 being awarded. I hope this helps.

Hi to all of you collectors.
I need help to determine if a Nakhimov medal transitional style is genuine. All advice on how to do it, pictures and closeups on details would be very welcome. Price is 170 dollars. Don´t know if this is ok. No document is present.
Best wishes

Sovvisor,

Its hard to tell from the scans but this does look like the other transitional Nakhimov medals that I have seen. It is shinner then a wartime issue, has thecorrect loop. I do not know if they were serial numbered or not as I have seen them with and without serial numbers.

I wish I could tell you more.

thanks ED

Thanks.
Soo you think it looks ok? I think so to. The details are sharp and the loop and ring seems ok. Very difficult with a medal you never have held in your hand.

More replies wanted.

Sovvisor,

Why is this variation called transitional? It existed since the 1980s, and was given as late awards and replacements.

Hi

The Nakhimov medal was given til 1991 in the old UssR style. The biggerst diffrence between the old soviet medal and the transitional style medal is the ring. On the old ones the ring is like a top of an anchor but on the medal from 1992-94 the ring is casted togather with the rest of the medal. It was one of the sovietmedal that bare no distingtive symbols of Ussr and could be adopted as an new russian style medal. After 1994 the entire medal range was changed and there were no medal that was very similar to the old soviet ones.

Sovvisor,

My point exactly, there is nothing transitional about it, since the medal was discontinued after 1991. It is just a variation 2.

There is a transitional variation of the State Border Medal, that is identical to the old Soviet one, but has no "CCCP" on the back. It was used till they switched to a new design in 1992.

After 1992 they kept Bravery and Ushakov medals with minor modifications.

Alexei and Sovvisor,

There is a transitional Nakhimov Medal that was issued during the 1991-1994 period. It was created by Ukase of the President of the Russian Federation No. 960 on 25 March 1993. I believe that 69 were awarded with the first going to Valentin Alekseevich Beichkov.

I hope this helps,
Ed
