Shtykov, Terentij Fomich, Lieutenent-General, Staff Of The Karelian Front
Just listed for sale by a major US dealer:
Researched group of 2 decorations and 10 documents to Col. General Terentiy Shtykov, de facto commander of the clandestine Soviet army in North Korea and Soviet ambassador to North Korea during the Korean War, also ambassador to Hungary in 1959-60. Includes his WW2 issue Order of Suvorov 1st cl. and Order of Kutuzov 1st cl. Decorations: Order of Suvorov, 1st cl., Type 2, Var. 2, #257, November 1944 issue; Order of Kutuzov, 1st cl., Type 2, Var. 3, #775, September 1945. Both awards are in excellent condition. Order of Kutuzov comes with McDaniel certificate of authentication showing excellent 8 out of 10 condition rating. Photo Identification Documents: 1. Ministry of Foreign Affairs ID, 1958 issue, certifying that the owner is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (to Hungary). 2. Membership ID of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1956, hand-signed by Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev. 3. Membership ID of the Supreme Soviet (Legislative Branch of the Soviet Government), 1954 issue. 4. December 1945 ID of the Narkomat of Defense, certifying that the owner is a member of the Military Council of the Maritime Military District (Far East). 5. March 1945 ID of the Narkomat of Defense, certifying that the owner is a member of the Military Council of the Maritime Group of Soviet Armies (which was renamed Maritime Military District after the end of WW2). The document bears facsimile signature of Joseph Stalin. A curious fact: although the document contains Shtykov's photograph, the last name shown is Shorin – an alias, as used by many top Soviet generals during the secret preparations for the attack against Japan. "Award Certificates and Appointment Papers: 1. Official congratulatory document on stationary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, accompanying a Medal for Victory over Germany. Dated 21 June 1945. Hand signed by Nikolay Shvernik, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium. 2. Official congratulatory document on stationary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, accompanying a Medal for Victory over Japan. January 1945. Hand signed by Mikhail Kalinin, Chairman of the Presidium. 3. Decree by Stalin appointing Terentiy Shtykov a member of the Military Council of the Special Group of Soviet Troops. This February 1943 document is typed on stationary of the Narkomat of Defense, and bears the stamp of the Protocol Department of the Narkomat. Shows Stalin's name and official position, but has not been signed. 4. Certificate for a presentation wrist watch, addressed to Lt. General Shtykov, member of the Military Council of Karelian Front. Dated 27 Setember 1944. The watch was awarded to Shtykov for his contribution in the 1944 Soviet offensive against Finland. Hand-signed by Marshal Georgy Zhukov, and typed on his special stationary of the First Deputy of the Supreme Commander of the Red Army. 5. Mandate ordering Shtykov to immediately arrive to the front lines to organize combat units of the Northwestern Front. The document essentially puts him in charge of the entire front, by instructing all officers to give him full assistance. Dated 12 July 1941. The order was obviously a desperate measure – by the second week of July the Germans had captured almost entire territory of the Baltic states and started advance towards Leningrad. Hand-signed by Marshal of the Soviet Union Klement Voroshilov, commander of the Northern and Northwestern Fronts. Bears stamp of the Baltic Special Military District – a pre-war name that had not yet been changed on the stamp in the chaos of the first weeks of the war. All documents are in excellent condition.
