Fake.

To add, there are no holes for the Supreme Soviet badge, Lenin prize etc. He ALWAYS had 4 preize medals on his right side.

Tal

BTW, I would expect the IWM to do a little research, and not stating that he was a WW2 Colonel, and, that he NEVER seen on public with the uniform.

The more...

...i look at it the more i am convinced its not Bubbas. No HSU holes ( I am sure B had them mounted on every clothing item he had, inclufing his bathrobe), no real wear, etc. The hat IS NOT his. Its clearly the large top late 1980's style made long after he was dead.

There were large numbers of B's ribbon bar copies floating around years ago, and unissued Marshals tunics. Match the two up and you have one of "his" uniforms.

One more thing. In most cases, Brezhnev wore the order of victory, not the ribbon for it.

Nobody's perfect...

What a surprise !!
What to think ? If the IWM itself displays fakes... or combined items... What could have so much disturbed them in 1995 ? Really surprising (disappointing ?).

There's also a really nice copy of his uniform on display in the wax museum on Leninsky Prospekt there in Moscow. It's very nice, and as I recall, it has copies of his Hero Stars and Lenin Prizes. Unfortunately, I didn't have the foresightedness at the time (1996) to get a photo of it!

I heard from one source that when he died, 50 Gold Stars (both HSU and HSL) were removed from his estate. Another source told me that 12 were brought back into the Archives. I'd tend to bet that the actual figure would be somewhere inbetween. Undoubtedly, he had numerous wearing copies of his awards... After all, why go to the effort of unscrewing and re-screwing the stars on your uniform when you could have as many made as you wanted???

That would also lead to the question... If he could have all the Hero Stars made that he wanted, could he not have had multiple Orders of Victory? If I were he, I would have- why not?

I wish that I could remember the year that I heard this, but it may be of interest: a one time friend of mine was approached in Petersburg in the early 90's by enterprising young Russians who, in the manner of the guys who used to sell "feelthy peectures" of French "working" girls, offered to sell him an authentic set of Breznev's ribbon bars. He did and was happy with it until he was offered two more sets by other "entrepreneurs" before he left Russia a week later. I now own it and it is identical to the one shown earliest on this thread. The problem with it is that it has none of the correct metal appurtenances that it should have (for that matter, I think the "stars" on the some of the ribbons on the IWM are way too big). I got curious about the set and was told years ago by at least one emigre dealer that the ribbons were put together by a company that was contracted to provide them for wax effigies of Brezhnev. The workers had far more ribbon than was required for the job so, eventually, they started to grind out as many sets as they had ribbon to use until they ran out...

Most of his photos and these sets show two Czech WWII Crosses of Valor - I'm not positive that award could have been given more than once.

Regarding whether he had multiple examples of the Order of Victory - I think that since his version had a soviet "safety pin" mount rather than the screw post on the original 1940's awards, it would have been easy to move it from coat to coat - particularly since the old boy must have had a valet or two to help dress him in his dotage...

Gents:
I don´t know what´s a Zippo Lighter. What is it?
I know that it can sound funny, but my "american" english is limited.
