Veteran's family and Buying back the awards

A strange question: Did any of you encountered a situation in which the family of a veteran, who sold his awards, wanted to buy it back, let's say, after it's financial situation was improoved?

Dear Tal

I have had this happen to me but not on Soviet medals. I have bought medals from the vet and a few years later have been contacted by the family looking to buy them back.

I also had a "bad" experiance where I bought some medals from the son the the vet(who was dead) and then had the family say the medals were stolen. Now I ensure that I get a signed document stating that the medals are his/hers to dispose of before I buy them.

I suggest this to all collectors who buy medals from families and even the vet. Its a good safeguard.

Kind regards from a hot and sunny SA

Munroe

I haven't had the family want to buy medals back, but on the US medals front, I too have tracked down a widow only to have her insist that the medals were stolen! I quickly returned them to the person I bought the group from.
