Order "For Bravery".
Here is a bit of info and a pic from YY for your Order of Bravery.
The award was instituted on August, 15, 1943. Awarded to military men and civil persons for bravery shown in fighting conditions. The obverse carries the text "SMRT FASIZMU / SLOBODA NARODU" (Death to Fascism, Freedom to the People) in two lines. The reverse is plain and flat with a stamped S/N. Eddie.

Eddie, do you have some pics of these awards in original award cases? I have only two medals in my collection with award cases ( medal for bravery and medal for merit to people). I don't know why is it harder to get cased medals and orders? Why did the original owners throw the cases away? At least 70% of medals comes without original boxes... And where did they put the documents? Most medals comes without documents. I don't get it...

Mark,
I'm sorry but at the moment I haven't found any pics of awards and Medals with boxes and docs. It is strange that they are so rare. A lot of people probably do not realise that later if they are to be sold they are worth a lot more with the original boxes and documentation. Eddie.

My grandfather was a yugoslavian partisan during ww2 and he recieved a lot of yugoslavian medals and orders- like medal for bravery, order for bravery, order for merit to the people... But the irony is that not only that he lost the documents and award cases, he lost the awards too... He doesn't know where they are... Sad, very sad... He can't even imagine what would these awards ment to me (because I'm a collector), he even had a ww2 issued documents for them, but he lost everything.
Well that's true that almost 60 years have passed from ww2 and things get lost durring a long period of time... :D Mark |

Mark that's sad news,
Funny thing is I found my dads Medals lying around with old coins pins etc, also without the award boxes and docs. On a more happier note. The Order of Bravery was issued not in a box but in a packet. It is made of gilt metal and came only in one class. The example shown here is a 2nd emission that was made in Yugoslavia. An early type was made in the USSR/CCCP, which had minor differences. It is inscribed in Serbo-Croatian with “SMRT FASIZMU – SLOBODA NARODU”, which translates to “DEATH TO FASCISM - LIBERTY TO THE PEOPLE”. The planchet shows a rifle lying over the Yugoslavia Flag and a crossed axe and scythe with the communist star adorning the top. The Backside has the serial number 140,830 that matches the packet of issue. However, this medal was awarded 120,636 times since it inception, so this particular medal never had a recipient. This medal went out of production on Dec 31, 1985. Here it is with ribbon bar and packet of issue. (Pic and text CO Market Garden) Eddie.

My order of bravery is just the same as this one on the pic and it has the packet (small envellope) too. The serial number on the packet and the number on the back side of the order do match too. The number is 142 334, so this one was also never awarded. They were probably stored somewhere untill Yugoslavia fell apart and then they went into collectors hands or something like that...
Very nice pic though! Thanks! Mark |

Also out ther is a lot of collectors who dont collect docs and boxed orders but only orders. And that is good for us collectors who collect whole grups because in that case we can find extra docs and boxes. Also your point of wiev about market prices and wants is corect more and more people are willing to pay better prices for whole grups whit boxed orders, docs and pics. Also you have a story of a man or womman and you can find out if he or she was a military or civilian person and so on and on. what is the highest observed serial number on yugoslav Order of bravery, 1. tipe, soviet made? I have seen only two of these orders on sale and I bought the second. I has the serial number a little more than 11 000.
And if someone knows, how many were made and awarded? |
