cloth on general uniforms
Hi gentlemen, I'd like to have a little precision about cloth quality of the generals uniforms. Yesterday I saw a complete piece (visor, pants and jacket) of 1980 (buttons and visor) for general maior of infantery, nice, very classic.
I noticed the cloth quality is very next to officers'one. I was told the quality decreased progressively with time. And curiously I saw more old mundir than 80's exemplars! (a friend m45 mundir, incredible quality, thick cloth, embroidery...and my 3 late 50' mundirs...very nice cloth, soon a bit less beautifull than 1945's one). Can you confirm me this evolution? thanks by advance, sebastien

Certainly in the case of comparing the M43/45 mindir tunic and to an extent the M1954 general's tunics the quality of the cloth was much better with a higher wool content.
As far as M1969 service uniforms go, the quality was better for generals than the officer uniforms but only slightly. In fact I think that colonels uniforms were made from similar cloth. |

Even in 1980 a general's tunic should still be relatively nice quality and rather thick material. If it is very thin, and too new looking, it is likely one of the Ukrainian made modern "fakes" still being produced. They use old buttons and wrong dates sometimes.
