Quality Uniform Reference Materials
From what I have found, most people have uniform or insignia books that deal with uniforms and insignia from the Great Patriotic War. Also, there appear to be quite a few books on M69 and later uniforms, often with pretty good photos of guys in the field/etc.
What I cannot locate is similar stuff on uniforms and insignia from 1946 until 1969. I have one reference, which is a 1958 US Army manual (which I don't know if it is 100% accurate or not), and the supplement thereto which discusses the 1958 changes. Does anyone have an earler US Army manual, or perhaps a USSR manual, detailing immediate post-war/M55/M58 uniforms? Or other ideas? (If anyone wants scans of the manual I do have, feel free to email me) |

I have an electronic version of the 1959 regulations. The quality is not so good, but readable, the images are not so good but OK :)
It was purchased at eBay for 0.99 USD from one of those sellers who appear... and gets kicked out ... and re-appear under a similar name ... etc Send me a PM if you want me to email it to You. |

Uniform Refs
I have found a number of good refs, usually available every now and again on ebay, East View, or other USSR collector dealers.
1. an excellent reference (in Russian) Voennaya Odezhda Vooruzhennikh Sil SSSR & Rossii: 1917-1990. 2. Some good english language intel references: a. UK/Canada MoD, Uniforms and Insignia of the Soviet Army and Para-Military FOrces. Covers the 1955 uniform regs. It is a small blue covered spiral bound book. Great reference for all the different epaulet color combinations. b. UK MoD, Soviet Army Unforms 1961. An ok reference, but I prefer the 1955 version (above). |
