Christophe,

I am not sure that an ongoing poll is really the way to go. Someone who was a member 2 years ago may no longer be among us today. So, the statistics may end up being skewed.

Of course, absolutely correct. But this small poll has no scientific value ... It is at least valid in the sense it gives the proportion of members connecting everyday, or less... The proportions since it has been launched are globally always the same. In all cases, we see in the list who is still there... or not. ... and it is not so bad...

Re: How many active Members in the Forum ?

Ten years on I can give a definitive answer. (But that's because I can view all the forum statistics and logs)

The most active signed up Forum Members in a 24 hour period was 142. - Considerably more than voted on this poll in the last 4311 days.
The most users (registered and unregistered) viewing the forum at the very same time was 193.

Over the last year 274 different registered users have logged on to the forum. The number of unregistered users that have viewed the forum over the last year is in the tens of thousands. Needless to say I don't have to go into the number of hits. If each post on the forum only got one hit by one person once a year it would still be over 100,000 hits (The displayed forum views only count views from forum members and not unregistered users).

Due to certain ip addresses now being blocked from even attempting to sign up spam sign ups and fake users are almost non-existent. Also all registered forum users that have never posted and are inactive for three years are removed. Leaving the user-names open to new sign-ups whilst not incorrectly inflating the number of users.

I was talking just the other day to another forum member about the forum breaking the simultaneous 200 active users barrier - I'm thinking it won't be too long.

Many of the users that continue to log in day after day are real "old guard" (signing up in the first third of the forum's existence) and most of us that sign in day after day have been doing so for year upon year.

Almost all of the forum members are here for that simple fact that they are dedicated to educating themselves or have a real interest in research and the stories that it reveals. This is what the forum is dedicated to. There are social media websites out there for all the other subjects and nonsense.

I know for certain that there is a very keen interest in the research of Soviet awards as I have been absolutely inundated with requests for my services since I posted an active listing on the forum marketplace (180+ requests last week alone). So if you are wondering why it is taking some time, it is because there are a lot of people with a serious interest in their Soviet awards.

I wonder what the statistics will be like in another ten years.
