Re: Secrets From the Russian State Archives Vault

It can not possibly be the world's largest nugget "in situe" as the world's largest nugget was "sliced and diced" in Australia a good time ago. I'm sure some other folks with Australian connections can confirm that the largest Gold nugget is indeed Ozzie and that they have a "life size" replica.

Re: Secrets From the Russian State Archives Vault

Absolutely correct

The largest gold nugget found was the Welcome Stranger, found at Moliagul, Victoria, Australia in 1869 by John Deason and Richard Oates. It weighed gross, over 2,520 troy ounces (78 kg) and returned over 2,284 troy ounces (71.0 kg) net. It eclipsed the Welcome Nugget found eleven years earlier in Ballarat, also in Victoria. At that time it was worth 9,555 pounds sterling!

£9555! You could have bought Western Australia and had enough change left over for Van Diemen's Land!

It really is absolutely outstanding what is hidden "behind closed doors". If everything was "ouvert" it would be a game changer indeed......

Re: Secrets From the Russian State Archives Vault

o_0 me like it all! especially the 78kg nugget, would make a nice display in my house

only one thing all awards returned to the State upon the recipient's death, were melted, unless were passed to museums and then in 80-90s got lock up somewhere really secure, with no daylight.

Besides recently I was talking with a person who works for museums in the UK, he told me that all real VC are locked away as well

Re: Secrets From the Russian State Archives Vault

You can blame Lord Ashcroft for hiding all the Victoria Crosses away.... They do however come up for sale once in a while.... and then you have to fight him off to get your hands on it.

Soviet Propaganda

Gents,

We can only ascribe it to Soviet/Russian propaganda. It's clear they continue to propagate the myth: Russia's Diamond Fund keeps world’s largest gold nugget - English pravda.ru

As it turns out, the "Big Triangle" as it is known (post # 2 above), only comes in at # 8 on the list.

The world's ten largest documented gold nuggets:

Weight (kg) Name Locality Year

1. 71 Welcome Stranger Australia, Victoria, Moliagul 1869
2. 69 Welcome Australia, Victoria, Ballarat 1858
3. 61 (Au 52) Serra Pelada (Canaã) Brazil, Pará, Serra Pelada 1983
4. 54 Blanche Barkly Australia, Victoria, Kingower 1857
5. 53 Precious Australia, Victoria, Berlin 1871
6. 50 Canadian Australia, Victoria, Ballarat 1853
7. 37 Lady Hotham Australia, Victoria, Ballarat 1854
8. 36 Bolshoi Treugolnik Venäjä Ural, Miask, Russia 1842
9. 35 Sarah Sands Australia, Victoria, Ballarat 1853
10. 34 Viscount Canterbury Australia, Victoria, Kanderaar 1870
