Re: Soviet awards on stamps

Stamp collecting ey? If you ever come across a stamp catalogue (like Stanley Gibbons) you will find collecting Soviet (never mind all the Warsaw pact nations or world) takes up a few hundred pages of the book. I've been collecting mainly rectangular paper items for over 20 years and have inherited nearly 100 years of collecting and bought up millions of them and still give me the medals! They don't get anywhere as near water damaged! But stamp collecting is an extremely cheap hobby if you want it to be... all you have to do is go through some bins and you will find! Just don't expect it to make you (or the great grandchildren) a millionaire though. Saying all this though there are some strange and wonderful stamp issues from the civil war period and also the occupation and reoccupation of most of eastern Europe. I suppose for a few pennies you can have a collection of all Soviet awards in stamp form.......

Is T-34 really shown on the attached stamp dedicated to Jewish volunteers from Palestine who served in British Army?

Glad I am not seeing things The stamp was discussed on a philatelic section of Russian collector's forum forumuuu. While T-34 on this stamp is as befitting as a saddle on a cow, the overall design is pleasing. The same can not be said about an Israeli stamp honoring Jewish soldiers in the Red Army. A photo of the banner of Victory over Reichtag is not the most appropriate for theme. Notice how an artist went out of his way not to show hammer and sickle

P.S. The only sensible explanation for the depiction of T-34 is symbolism. Each element on the stamp symbolizes Jewish soldiers in one of Allied armies: infantrymen for British, B-17 for US, T-34 for Soviet.

Re: Soviet awards on stamps

Russia's Postal Service released, as a beginning of what appears to be a series dedicated to modern orders, a souvenir sheet depicting an order of St. Andrew.

Re: Soviet awards on stamps

That really is an outstanding MS. If I collected Russian stamps that would have to be the very finest example of the philatelist art.
