Hmmm... Very interesting. The question is how old are they really??

The standard M1966 pilot's wings were made through till the end of the USSR (and I strongly suspect beyond). I have seen guys in Moscow with bags full of them (the normal ones not this dark blue, all new and shiny.

I would guess this is a fantasy version made post-USSR but who knows???

IF they are really Soviet era than what are they??

The only KGB air wing I am aware of is that of the Border Guards. Their personnal wore standard KGB Borde Guard uniforms for parade and service but with the second air force cap badge on their peaked hat crowns. They also used standard air force field and flight gear and apparently went to an air force pilot's school.

Another interesting and almost unexplored area is badges issued by "lower bodies". Most badges are issued by the order of the Ministry of Defence, or KGB, or Komsomol, etc. However, some badges are issued by comanders of lower bodies/sub-bodies and ore only legit in these sub-bodies.

For example, there were anniversary badges issued by the Republican KGBs, the choice of putting a name plaque on an academy badge or higher school bage was up to the school commander.

I wonder if these variations were done by local units - say the GSFG?

All,

I have just noticed another minor detail - laureal leaves around the shield on both badges should be silvered. If they were not purchased before 1991 I'd say they would be current production.

Skp, a question - you have mentioned that there are no mint marks... well, they should have them. I will post some scan in a moment.

First Class, right wing has a small star.

Second Class - left wing. I have a bunch of those badges in stock, and they all have either one or the other mark.

Cor, eagle eyes or what, I just looked very closely and both have the second type of mark, very unclear ad nearly hidden by the pin assembly, but it´s there alright.

It is probe badges of 1992-1993. The idea was to produce cheaper pilot badges. These badges have bad enamel and no silver covering on leaves. Not so much was produced.
