Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"

I'm pretty sure those Soviet/Russian awards are on display due to the fact that it is known that this will be shown internationally. The Marshal is not be any means wearing all of his awards as he would have an array of DPRK "participation" and "commemoration" Medals as well as other DPRK Orders. There is definitely some deeper meaning to this selection of awards that just "look at the pretty colours".

I am currently working on an updated "How Much To Pay" which many prices altered downwards and many remaining static and maybe a few altered upwards. This is all under the presumption that it is "business as usual" in the DPRK after the death of Kim Jong-Il. If it is not the case there could be some violent reductions in almost all prices.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"

Really great. I admit that I would love the opportunity to buy some of the beautiful earlier Soviet-made awards when/if the curtain falls. Hopefully that can coincide with at least some relief coming to the people of DPRK.

When the August 1991 coup and subsequent collapse of the USSR happened, I had left Moscow just two years prior. I remember watching the events unfold on TV, and there was widespread Western surprise when the system unfolded. In DPRK the system is more deeply rooted of course but maybe...just maybe..

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"

I would like to say right now that I have experienced a LARGE "explosion" of DPRK items offered to me in the last 48 hours. Some items I have been able to obtain at prices that other forum members may feel is "fantasy" but I have turned the majority down. This may or may not be a precursor of future events.... but I am very honestly turning down certain items right now at $1.50 delivered.

What will tomorrow bring?

What's behind this? Is it that Chinese stock is flooding the market out of fear that soon the gates will open in DPRK and they will get even less for their stock?

By the way, if you could get one of those wonderful Soviet made labour orders (old style, like recently posted here) for $1.50 (or a bit more:D) I'd be happy to take it off your hands:thumbsup

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"

"Out of my cold dead hands!" I am still looking for all but 2 of the Soviet made DPRK Orders although I do have 8 Soviet made DPRK Orders.

The quality of the Soviet made DPRK Orders (They didn't make any DPRK Medals except "Hero" stars) is exceptional and when compared DPRK awards produced by others they tower over them with an incomparable quality and finish. The awards produced for the DPRK by the Soviets can be compared to Soviet Orders and in many cases it could be said that the DPRK Orders are of a higher production quality.

One of my very favourite pieces in my collection is a very early Soviet produced Order Of The National Flag 3rd Class which will have been awarded in the early days of the Korean War. The reverse has been worn to a silk finish by constant wear and is one of the most pleasant things I have ever touched. Contrary to popular belief though the Soviets did not produce the DPRK's first batch of Orders but early in the DPRK history had to spring into action when whoever produced the first batch (probably the DPRK) could not either produce or have high enough production to make enough Orders to award the seemingly unstoppable KPA on its way to Pusan.

Re: some of my DPRK awards / medals

As predicted.... Items are now haemorrhaging from the DPRK. I hope no-one "invested" in DPRK items expecting to speculate as in the last week alone I have been offered items by the sack full. It is getting to the point where DPRK items may be heading onto the western markets by the shipping container full. Prices will be at an all time low very soon - watch the Chinese dealers who have been sitting on items speculating quickly struggle to off load their inventories before the big "crash" hits.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"

Well I, for one, would be very happy to pay $300 for Soviet-made examples of the Order of Freedom and Independence (first OR second class) or the first style Order of Labor.

None to be seen at those prices, though.
At least, not yet.
