I think everyone had the same problem, we all wish to have one medal of all kind but we also all have other things to pay for and a lot of us don't have the interest, the cash, or simply don't whant to put that much money on a little medal.

This is where I draw the line
For me, I decide on an area of ODMs to collect. Right now my focus is on completing my campaigne medals and documents collection. I'm also looking for citations to Medics, Medical Nurses and Doctors of the USSR. I'm preparing a book dedicated to them...One Medic to another.

Doc,
I imagine documented awards to medics will be difficult to find? As the more educated (hate this word) and generally better-off members of the Soviet society they were probably more likely to take a good care of their awards with more of them remaining in the families. It should make a very interesting book. Sergei |

Thank You Sergei,
You are right. It is a slow process to find citations to medical personnel. It will be a slow process but well worth it. Doc |

Perhaps a stupd question--how do you know if the person was medical personnel? They didn't have titles like guards people. such as "medical captain blah-blah," right?

Tim,
Here there is no such thing as a stupid question...only the one not asked. They would have been assigned to "Sanitary units". Doc |

Ah--very interesting. What is the Russian phrase for "sanitary units?" I'll look around my stuff.
i think I have a small group to a nurse actually--I'm not sure there are any orders, but I think I have her solder's book. Would that help, or do you need only archive docs? |

Medical Service was 'meditsinskoi sluzhby' (медицинской службы), like in 'Major-General of Medical Service'.
