Unusual stars on this rank board ?
Apologies for the bad image, I had to cut it down to reduce the size for the posting. I bought a pair of captain's shoulderboards recently but the stars are not the normal army style as you can see. The boards are definitely ex-uniform but the backing is a strong red plastic base, not the usual base material. They are six sided boards so if anyone could help identify what they are or the reason for the unusual stars I would appreciate it greatly.

Unusual indeed! Maybe they´re not soviet.
Do you have a picture of reverse and of the top buttons, if it has? Then we can see if they´re not soviet and/or reenactor.

Paul,
It is probably new Russian boards, as to the stars, they remind me of Militia ones. Marc |

I agree, these are new RUSSIAN boards (hence the six-sided configuration on plastic base), with the relatively new, smooth-sided, gold rank stars. I saw many, from all branches of military, internal forces, and militia, during my last trip to Moscow. Definitely POST-SOVIET issue.

Many thanks for the asisstance gents. Here is a scan of the reverse. Unfortunately they have no top button. Is it safe to presume that any boards like this with a plastic backing are post Soviet ?

Paul,
That is a very safe assumption. Also, the fasteners are post-soviet. Marc |

Post-soviet... My friend in Murmansk sent me a bag of these together with shoulderboards from the militia.
