Btw, do you do research?
Sure thing!

No mention of the Merit Medal and Red Star. They're long service awards from after the war. The Merit Medal would have come around 1946-1947 I guess. The Red Star should then be 1952, but the serial number actually puts it solidly at 1954-1956. This would just be the result of bureaucratic processes.

The Berlin medal isn't mentioned, but then that's also no surprise. It was awarded in 1946 according to its document, and the OPW1 award citation was submitted in May 1945.

I will direct you to Auke for research :) You would only ask for the record card and service record, since you already have the citations. But you don't even need the record card really, since you already have just about all the info it would give.

Good try, Tom. The small pictures and sideways Berlin document weren't a big help.

Cheers,

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

The man was from naval ground unit. Apart from the fact, that e.g. naval infantry man could have been a participant of the battle of Berlin. Also, Iam sure there was navy personnel taking part in the Berlin operation - I remember seeing a photo of polish troops prepearing for the Berlin operation and they were consulting some Soviet navy officers, so whynot?

As for the circular stamp - it's astamp of the personnel department of the Polish Army - so unfortunately it isn't very informative. However, at least this document isundoubtedly authentic.

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

This thread has got me thinking.

If someone wished to, could they officially not wear their jubilee medals and just wear the "good stuff"?

Cheers,

Tom

Good question! And could they have wear more than two OPW's?

Such cases were discussed on the forum. It could happen.
However, this type of uniform was used until 1952 I think, so it's possible that the man retired before that date and left the jacket as it was. Just a guess.

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

Military/Civil Service regulations would not allow a service person to "pick" what awards they did and did not wear. If this person left service before receiving any more awards and rejoined "Civvy Street" he may have worn only a ribbon bar or possibly not worn any awards ever again.

I have known a few people who only wore bars or never wore their awards when not obliged to do so.

USSR,

I don't see anything here that would link this gentleman to the Navy
