Re: Soviet Support badge

That Badge is very typical of Swedish Construction with the elongated pin. Sporrung usually puts their name to almost everything they produce.

Having lived in Sweden I know that there certainly were (and are) Swedish Communists. With partisan violence still occurring regularly (at least in Helsingborg).

I have had the chance to observe and handle Swedish Communist items from the mid 1920's to 1930's but at the time I was rather distracted by other pursuits. The full spectrum of Swedish politics is something completely off of the radar for most people. They have certainly had their share of political events, Summer governments, Royal deaths and more recently the non-political murder of Anna Lindh, that politicised a lot of people.

Re: Soviet Support badge

Yes, it's a typical sporrong pin. They were the high-end of the badge making companies and produced items from far left to far right in Swedish politics. In fact if you had money you could have any pin you would like.
Today the nazi-pins are expensive but communist are rather cheap. This pin I posted is from the youth komintern in Sweden, made in 1941 and hard to find. Communist pins are not easy to find because of the small numbers made, but affordable when you do.

I wont comment on Swedish current politics other than to say we live in interesting times.

Re: Soviet Support badge

I suppose any nation's political events are interesting if you look at them from the correct angle.

My own experience in Sweden suggests similar results to what you have stated. Right wing items go for exceptional amounts (I was offered large sums for particular items I had obtained outside of Sweden) whereas left wing items often can't even be given away.

The extensive group I "played with" was to a high-profile Communist who was the founder of various associations, clubs and other organisations in the 1920's and 30's. Some of them faded away almost immediately and some are still going strong today. The items should really be in a museum but I don't think any of their agendas would allow.

For me, Sweden and Bulgaria are the pivotal nations of Europe so I do have an overt interest in their history and politics (including a personal "involvement"). If you can show us more Swedish Communist items please do.

Re: Soviet Support badge

I haven't got much from the Swedish communist party, or any of the mulitiple fractions, apart from the pin and some 1 may badges. They are pretty hard to find and when I researched them at the sporrong archive I now know why. But if I get more I'll post them too.

I might add that the Swedish left side of politics never was much for medals and orders. They saw that as a symbol of the old/conservative system. Many socialdemocrats refused royal orders (when that was an opion, I doubt communist members of parliment even got asked the question). Although they did like pins and had many nice ones made.

If you need some translation help or other kind in your Swedish interest let me know and I'll try my best to help.

Re: Soviet Support badge

Once again you are very correct. Swedish Communism is mainly paperwork (Monarchy, anyone?) but it absolut interesting.

Without falling into a political rant, I am absolut, unequivocally a monarchist. My own political views often evoke response, positive or negative. I enjoy hearing about all political opinions. Sweden is full of them.... without making the news.... I chose not to be a Swedish VIP.
