Soviets used this style too. DDR (and Third Reich) cuff bars are silver with branch color piping in the middle, but Soviet ones have gold all throughout... If I am not mistaken, junior officers wore on bar on each sleeve, senior officers two, and generals three when wearing this type of tunic, while the Germans wore two bars for all ranks.

Re: NKVD? Legal? Militia? Navy? Bogus?
I think I have something else here, something to think about:
Procuracy Official 1956-1960s This 1960 dated cap is an earlier example of one worn by a Procuracy official - in this case probably junior grade. The colors differ from those above, but since both caps appear original, the most likely explanation is that the uniform colors of this service (at least the piping color) changed over time. Note that this color combination is the same as that used by the Ministry of Communications during the same period - only the emblems and buttons differentiated the service. This was a common practice in the USSR. The teller shaped crown is sewn from dark blue cotton material piped in bright (cornflower) blue. The band is black velvet. The cockade is the 1956 two-piece model. The oilcloth strap is held in place by two "general-style" brass buttons with the great seal of the USSR showing 15 republics (post 1956). The visor is rounded and small, made from black lacquered fiberboard. Scarce-Rare Do I have to cite this? I think we all know what site this is from. The colors of this cap and piping match that of the uniform, and so does the branch, but not the buttons... I believe later on, prosecutors changed to green piping... |

An interesting idea that it may be a soviet bloc tunic. Cuff spools, by themselves, don't bother me, even piped as you can see on the border guard m43. Below are, as described above, general, field grade officer, company grade officer

Willie.
You may be on to something there. I have a customs and rail administrative M43's which, if compared to period soviet army, look all wrong.

Piping was added and it’s not such a difficult task as one may think. Buttons were replaced. Army’s metal cuff’s spools are from 50’s and they were put on the blue backing at the same time piping was added. Shoulder boards are real from 80’s. Total cost including labor around $10 – 15.

Re: NKVD? Legal? Militia? Navy? Bogus?
Who would still have shoulder boards like this in the 80's? I thought by then everyone had sewn down boards. Or are you saying they are federation boards?

Could it also be possible that this is a Cossack uniform like this one (minus prosecutor insignia)?: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...y-uniform.html And Vadim, what makes you so sure that this is a fantasy piece? |
