Waffenbruedershaft in gold to Soviet
This was awarded to General Kurochkin, who at one time was the commander of the Frunze Military Academy (picture to the right).

The Waffenbruedershaft medal pictured is the bronze variation (actually looks more like copper). The gold variation will be a lighter gold plated medal with three orange stripes on the grey ribbon. Since gold is specified on the citation, I assume the other image is an example of the medal rather than part of the actual certificate. I've attached an image of the gold version below:
Ooops; my bad. Thanks to Mr. Pickard's fine book, I have found that in most cases it is the basic (lowest level) award that is pictured on the document- the actual level received is noted in the citation. So the document you have pictured is correct; the actual medal received would look like the one I have shown.

According to Bartel's DDR - Spezialkatalog 1949-1990 from 1966-1968 the Gold was awarded with one band on the ribbon. Then from 1968 on the Gold went to three bands on the ribbon..
The date on this document is 1966 so the appropriate gold medal and ribbon with one band is depicted. |

I stand corrected. Is the Bartel's book still in print/available? If you know of a source, please either e-mail or send me a PM. Thanks.

OK, I've received the "DDR Spezialkatalog Band 1, Staatliche Auszeichnungen der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik 1949 - 1990" by Frank Bartel. OUTSTANDING! Thanks to all for moving me in this direction. It really is a must-have for collecting DDR awards. Due to information received from this and Ralph Pickard's "Collecting Stasi Memorabilia", I have made a couple more purchases from a much more informed position. Thanks again.

Re: Waffenbruedershaft in gold to Soviet
desantnik - A very nice award document from 1966. The time period for these to have been known to have been awarded before switching to newer award document was in the mid 1970s.

Medal Of Brothers-In-Arms.
Typical of Warsaw Pact medal exchanges, this is an example of one such trinket awarded to Soviet General Kurochkin, P.A. who from an internet search was the superintendant of the famed Soviet Frunze Military Academy for senior Soviet and exchange officers. Notably this document is actually signed by East German Minister of Defense Heinz Hoffman. This document is also a smaller 8.5x11.5 cm format in a hard-cover red document. The typical East German document is much larger A4 size.
If someone feels this should be in the documents section, feel free to move. |
