Re: Selling on eBay

Plus, as a seller you cannot warn other sellers, since you cannot leave feedback if you have opened an unpaid item case:
Quote:
Sorry, it's not possible to leave feedback for this transaction. Feedback has been disabled because payment was not recorded.
Ridiculous.

And finally, eBay says that they record the unpaid item on the buyer's account, but that's not visible to other sellers and buyers, just eBay staff, so that's effectively useless...

Re: Selling on eBay

Auke,

I'm sorry to learn of your eBay headaches. Have you thought of advertising your items as not being for sale to buyers from select countries? I recently saw a listing that excluded buyers from Indonesia, Pakistan and Hawaii - an odd combination to say the least. Good luck in your efforts.

Regards,

Re: Selling on eBay

The simple solution is to sell on the forum marketplace.

It is certainly better to sell an item to a trusted collector for $XX than refund an item (and postage) that sold to an "unknown" for $XXX.

The forum marketplace is far more transparent and has some new harder guidelines. Problems can also be aired publicly.

Re: Selling on eBay

Theoretically it is, but the audience is just too small - I've sold quite a few items here over the years, but the number of different buyers is less than 10. There are certain items that just 1-3 forum members may be interested in bidding on. That's just not working. Audience-wise this forum just can't beat eBay. I tried to sell a neat group here recently, but there wasn't a single bid. I don't mind selling things here for slightly less than on eBay if that means I can avoid all the eBay hassle, but there just aren't enough interested forum members here.

Thanks for the tip, Slava, I could indeed ban sellers from certain countries. Too bad though that a handful of rotten apples spoil things for the other 1.4 billion.

Re: Selling on eBay

The problem with selling award groups on e-bay and such is that You risk that it will be sold to pieces by the next owner. For this reason, the best place to sell the groups is this forum - even if there aren't too many people who may buy it.

Re: Selling on eBay

I had thoughts about selling some of my extra medals on E. However after learning about how much ebay and paypal tax, I decided to keep them. Maybe one day I will sell them face to face or maybe I will try the marketplace here... E is probably only good if you want to sell stuff very fast.
By the way, I saw many of your items on E. I placed bids on a couple of medals, but unfortunately I lost

Re: Selling on eBay

Personally, For the right price, I'll buy anything.
I am a Yorkshireman after all.
Almost all the Soviet awards I've picked up on ebay over the last year (which is a considerably lower number than the amount I've bought here or directly from users here) were almost all under metal value or under $2. Some very nice NarKom produced awards for $1-$2 proving that listing an item elsewhere does not mean it will sell for more.
There were some exceptionally high prices paid for some documents here - higher than I have seen anywhere else.
As I always say; If you are selling, start at 1 cent with no reserve and let the market find the right price.

The splitting of groups is also a serious problem and over the last two years I have put vast resources into reuniting (to some extent) dozens of sets. A few on the horizon too.....

Re: Selling on eBay

Auke,

Im really sorry that this happened to you. Even more though that it was someone in our circle who did it.

I hope whoever it is rectifies the situation and redeems themselves even the slightest bit.

Re: Selling on eBay

hello all

I have used ebay for many years both as a seller and a buyer. I have set my setting to reduce any problem buyers such as a certain amount of feedback, non payment and also I don't sell to china or Russia as always issues there. I also don't buy from those countries. Ebay can be great but you need to manage your account to reduce any problems and exposure and always send items reg and signed for
