Medal “For the rescuing of those perished”
The medal was established was established by the Decree of the President's of Russian Federation №442 on March 2, 1994. The medal “For the rescuing of those perished” is rewarded to citizens for the rescuing people during the natural catastrophes on the water, underground, extinguishing of fires and other circumstances.
The medal is presented together with a certificate.

Re: Official Chernobyl awards

Eric,

I am a bit confused here. Were those awards you presented (Orders "For Courage" and medal "For rescue") specifically presented in relation to Chernobyl?

Another small point, the "medal" for Chernobyl cleanup is in fact a badge ("знак").

Re: Official Chernobyl awards

I have no idea how many of those Badges were made but they are everywhere. Were the powers that be expecting tens of millions to "liquidate"?

Re: Official Chernobyl awards

Re the small Chernobyl badge, how easy is it to come across the document for these? I see the badge itself everywhere but no docs?

If anyone has a spare, let me know!

Re: Official Chernobyl awards

Although they were supposed to be around 500,000 awarded the documents can be very difficult to find. You can pick up the Badges by the dozen but the documents (blank or filled in) can be a struggle. I've not got one yet.

A couple of points...

Not sure where this is coming from, as we've already established that quite a few Soviet and RF orders and medals were awarded for specific actions at Chernobyl. In the sense that this badge was like a campaign medal, yes, I think you're right that it's the only one.

Marc, I believe they were, although that wasn't at all made clear. I think I've seen at least two of them elsewhere. Eric, are they currently in your collection? Could you share the stories behind them please?

They're relevant here, so why?
Yes, they are in my collection.
