Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

Hi George, unfortunately, there is no Breydo's bio in the Soviet Military Encyclopedia. Attached is the award citation for his OGWP.

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

That's great, thanks very much Alex! :thumbsup The podvignaroda site will be great once it's finished. Thanks for the suggestion of searching by name + patronymic, I guess I am lucky my relative had an unsual patronymic! Btw, this man was one of the 300+ Khmelnitsky 1 Class cavaliers. :)

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

There are bits and pieces of data on the Russian Internet, but I was unable to find a complete bio. He would be a great candidate for research.

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

Thanks very much, Alexei. Yup I've also found some interesting bits here and there, in addition to the GPW-1 citation Alex found on podvignaroda.ru there's a spravka signed by Brejdo from 24.6.1941(!) there.

One interesting tool for researching biographies today is the Google Books site. Check out анатолий ерухимович брейдо - Google Book Search
as well as
Кременчуг брейдо - Google Book Search
--some really interesting results. I've bought the Znamenitiye Yevreii book to surprise my father, he'll be very happy to read about his uncle whom he remembers so fondly.

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

I have a copy of the Voenniy Encyclopedicheskiy Slovar (Moscow Military Editions 1986 - almost 900 pages) and I tought he would be included in it, but unfortunately, he is not part of it. :(

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

Probably nothing new, but here are few bits found on various sites:

БРЕЙДО Анатолий Ерухимович
Born: 19.02.1903
Died: 24.04.1965

General Ranks (date conferred)
БРЕЙДО Анатолий Ерухимович Генерал-майор артиллерии 07.02.1943
БРЕЙДО Анатолий Ерухимович Генерал-лейтенант артиллерии 19.04.1945

Wife: Anna M a r k o vna Breydo 1905-1987
Him and his wife are buried in Moscow.

Awardings
- Bohdan Khmelnitsky 1st class - 29.6.1945
- Order of Lenin 39864 30 April 1945
He apparently also has at least three orders of the 2nd class + others

Alexscl: Thank you so much for that website (podvignaroda). I found lot of digitalized documents about some of my documented and research awards that I didn't even had in my paperwork! That's a nice Christmas gift!:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Re: Anyone with a Soviet Military Encyclopedia?

Thanks again guys. If you are curious, here's a short bio of Breydo I found (in Russian). Isn't research great with the tools we have today. :thumbsup
