Re: How to display Soviet awards
The "Badge" is different from the "Star". I believe the "Badge" was an early governmental award whereas the "Star" was awarded after membership of some "society" or "programme" or "club" a few years later. I have a poster sized document "under the furniture" next time I can drag it out I'll see about borrowing a camera. Attached is a photo of a "Badge" being worn. On the extreme right (to our point of view).

Re: How to display Soviet awards
I know what you talking about, don't you worry. The first pattern (emisison) of Partisan badge. Replased in 50s by this star and the star which were given to neary everyone is star with Dimitriev head on it. The first one didn't go to frame, simply cos if it did, I had to start looking for first pattern of Hungarian one with parachute. I have seen things, I would prefer to have for that money.

Re: Storing medals
In case of a fire at my house, I have everything in a big plastic box to carry out first.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
This seemed like the best choice for where to post my question about this ribbon and any others with a similar problem. The pictures are of a Czech SNB medal I just got in whose ribbon is rather "scrunched" up from the way it was packed during shipment.
Does anyone have a suggestion about how to go about smoothing the ribbon out? There's not enough to use an iron on (and I would worry about damage). Just hanging it by the pin doesn't look like it will fix the problem because the medal does not weigh very much. I could pin it stretched out, but it would look odd. Any thoughts? Phillip

Phillip,
Let it hang. With a little time and weight, gravity works wonders Marc |

You might try steam. If you have a tea kettle you could hold it in front of the spout while the water is boiling to get it to smooth out and then try pressing it under some heavy books. |
