A rare and exceptional 19 Century German Imperial Damascus Honor Sword, the highly ornate & gilded decorated blade stamped by ECHT-DAMAST and makers A.Werth in Solingen with inscribed "The Officers Corps of the Hussars Regiment No7 of the King. To the Heir Prince to Bentheim as a friendly memory", with the Grand Cross of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Inscribed Germany: Das Offiziercorps des Königs = Husaren = Regiments N7. Dem Erbprinzen zu Bentheim, zur freundlichen Erinnerung.
At that time was Alexis Carl Ernst Louis Ferdinand Eugen Bernhard.From 17 November 1845 – 28 September 1890, His Serene Highness The Hereditary Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt.In 1866, Alexis was a Lieutenant in the Hanoverian Guards Hussars Regiment and in 1868, he was transferred to the Hussars Regiment No. 7. In 1873, he advanced to First Lieutenant and then to Rittmeister in the Regiment der Gardes du Corps in 1875. In 1884, Alexis advanced to Major à la suite in the Army. In 1892 Alexis was made Lieutenant Colonel, then Colonel in 1895, and Major General in 1899. In 1902, he was awarded the uniform of the Regiment der Garde du Corps Lieutenant General.
