1st Lt. John P. Jones, Co. F, 45th Illinois Infantry, lost his Springfield musket and accoutrements while traveling on the Illinois Center RR, going back to his regiment in the South, after a furlough home. He wrote out this certification from Otowah Crossing, Ga. on June 30, 1864, claiming on his honor, that these items were stolen.
Jones was from Poplar Grove, IL. who enlisted on July 22, 1863, into Co. F, and mustered out on December 28, 1864. That regiment had engagements at Chunky Creek, and Canton, Mississippi.
