Selling a Complete 3 Volume edition of the Atlas toAccompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies.
When the US War Department began issuing its 70 volume setof records generated by both the Union and Confederate Armies, it also createdan Atlas to Accompany the Official Records. The atlas was published in 35sections, from 1891-1895. It contained 175 loose plates with more than 1,000maps, illustrations, and diagrams, detailing battlefield maps, scenes from theconflict, and military equipment.
Published by a Resolution of the U.S. Congress of May 19,1864 as The Official Historical Record of The Civil War, and was never openlysold, but distributed only to Federal depositories, university libraries, public museums, various public & semi-public concerns. Fewer than 1,000complete atlases rare said to remain.
Given the age of the edition, the books are in very goodshape. The cover of Volume 1 is close todetaching from the binding and I\'ve tried to do what I can to note andphotograph other condition issues.Volume 2 probably has the most damage of the three books as there is asection of plates with dogearing in the margins and then others that have tearscrossing into the actual frames and a few with loss. Volume 1 is in excellent shape, cover aside,as the plates are in tact for the most part barring some small clean tears inbottom margins of a few of them as well as a few plates with minor staining inspots. Volume 3 is a mix of plates inexcellent condition as well as some with small pieces out of them.
Below are some notes I\'ve taken. If there are any additional photos someonewould like representing damage, or if there is just a particular plate youwould like photos of to verify it\'s condition, please let me know. Given the 12 photo limits, I only addedphotos showing bindings of the books and ones indicative of the damage asmentioned in the notes below. I didn\'tadd any photos for the numerous plates that are in excellent shape but couldsend along to anyone should they want examples.
