General Arthur Henry Rogers - OP TORCH WW1 WW2 BIGOT Maps photos letters PATTON:
$25000.00

You are offerding on the lifetime archive of Brigadier General Arthur Henry Rogers. It includes numerous, highly significantmaps, dozens of overlays, hundreds of letters, hundreds of documents (many stamped "secret"/marked BIGOT), battle summaries, photographs, propaganda leaflets, highly interesting ephemera, a medal, etc. Perhaps 2000+ document/pages in total. Dozens of maps. Museum-worthy photographs.
I will attempt to summarize some of the more important documents, and opine on the significance of some of the maps, but regardless of the number of paragraphs of text I write, it will only provide the viewers of this listing with a tiny glimpse of the sum total of amulti-decade militaryofficier's entire career. Brigadier General Rogers saved all of this material; it dates from the 19th century, all the way to his passing in 1967.
General A. H. Rogers was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his extreme heroism on the beaches of Fédala (فضالة). , Nov. 8th -11th, 1942. He was a Lieutenant Colonel at the time. And, as all serious students of WWII are aware, the Operation Torch invasion into North Africaproved to be anabsolutely vital "learning experience" for the following larger invasion into mainland Europe, better known as D-Day. The three-pronged invasion into North Africa did NOT go as planned, for numerous reasons, so its importance in the whole scheme of the eventual success of D-Day, cannot be underestimated. The Generals used what they learned about the shortcomings of Operation Torch, to better plan the Normandy Invasion.Fedala (also spelled Fedhala; known today as Mohammedia) is a stone's throw from Casablanca, Morocco. The Allies began their invasion at about 4:00am on November 8th. The Battle lastedonly about 4 days; fortunately the German and Vichy French were caught off-guard. Which was very fortunate, because the beach landing had proved to be a fiasco. Unexpected tides and unforeseen/underestimated rocky coastline caused many of the landing boats tocapsize and sink...and these were boats that were supposed to do numerous trips back and forth to the ships, to get soldiers to shore in a series of landings. General Roger's kept his head, amidst a great deal of landing chaos, and earned his highest medal, for his exceptional heroism. He was also promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, shortly thereafter.
The ENTIRE, original copy, of the minute-by-minute "breakdown" of the battles of Fedala/Operation Torch, are included in this archive. Many of the supporting documents, both leading up to the invasion, during the invasion, and subsequent to the invasion, have contemporaneous hand-written notes on them. Basically, if it was printed in relation to the Fedala Invasion, there is a good chance that general Rogers saved in in his personal archives.
Also, if one were to seriously consider the daunting task, of writing the definitive book about the Battle of Fedala/Operation Torch (as I once considered doing), one could not possiblyfind better "primary source" documents - no less actually own them - than the documents/maps/hand-written notes which are a part of the Roger's Archive. Lest one forget, this portion of the Archive, as "museum-worthy" as it is, represents only a portion of General Roger's long, distinguished career. His military career started with WWI, and there are countless letters/docs/etc., which speak to the early career. In fact, there is a book to be written, which would be very poignant indeed, that just speaks to Roger's Parisian deployment.***One of the most significant items in the Rogers Archive (that spans 80+ years), is undoubtedly the WWII Operation Torch Casablanca/Fedala Operational Map. This original, hand-watercoloredmap measures c. 78 1/2" x 58" (roughly 6 feetx five feet) and almost certainly is the primary map that General Patton stood over as he discussed the Invasion with his officers. Arthur Henry Rogers was one of those high-ranking officers, and he took copious notes surrounding the North Africa Invasion. The significance of this mapshould not be underestimated. Ideally, it belongs in a museum.
***There are many documents, maps, and overlays pertaining to the next step of the Allied invasion into Italy, particularly Sicily, as well. Troop positions, battle plans, high-ranking officer correspondence, etc. Shipping on the entire Archive will be a flat $200. It will bedelivered in numerous boxes, by Priority Mail. It will be sent fully insured and with signature confirmation required.
Due to the vast size/volume of the Archive, and the fact that only a small portion of it will be mentioned in detail, and/or photographed...I highly recommend potential buyers to ask questions with regard to the material, and your specific interests. I will respond to your questions in a very timely matter.
With regard to thehundreds ofletters (many intra-military; general to general), well, obviously there are simply far too many to scan. I will highly recommend that all those serious about collecting important military documents...please make the trip to East Greenwich, RI...to fully inspect the Rogers' documents. etc. in-person.Contact me to arrange a mutually convenient date and time. I would recommend you allocate several hours for the pre-purchase inspection. Ican be reached through the message system, or directly at [phone removed by ].
Any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask. Good communication between Buyer and Seller is the key to stress-free purchases. And please offer with confidence; I have been selling on for over 16 years and have maintained 100% positive response the entire time. Please check my response.
