General Walton Walker South Korea Medallion Gold Portrait Rare Signed Letter:
$25000.00

Joe R This is a one of a kind military item from the Korean War. It was presented to General Walton Walker of the United States Army who had led the United Nations Forces into Korea during 1950. After WW 2, General Walker was in charge of the Eighth Army in Japan. The Koreans (now South Korea) presented this Medallion to General Walker for his service during these trying times. This lot consists of the following: Metal Medallion (possibly bronze with Korea characters) 8 x 6.5 inches; Gold (pure gold) (2.5 ounces) portrait of General Walker, 2.5 x 2 inches with attachments on the back; Wooden, custom box housing the items, 8.5 x 9.25 x 2 inches; Typed letter from CHO CHAE CHON, GOVERNOR OF KYONGSANG PUKTO PROVINCE, KOREA, dated December 20, 1950. The Governor speaks for the people of Korea and the respect they have for the General. Eventually the United Nations forces pushed forward again and the 36th Parallel was created and still exists today. General Walker was a Texas native from the Central Texas town of Belton. The family home was sold to a family from Salado, Texas, and they discovered some unusual items remaining in the house. The Army from Fort Hood came and took what they wanted. In turn, the new owners sold some of the unwanted items. This Medallion was one of those and I have had it for 35 years. It is an amazing item and undoubtedly the only one. This listing is historic in that this is probably the first time that most individuals and collectors have become aware of its existence. In Texas, Walton Walker Freeway is in the Dallas area. In Korea, there is Walker Hill and nearby the Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel. General Walker died in a jeep accident on December 23, 1950, only 3 days after the date on the letter from the Governor. It is authentic and the accompanying letter attests to that. Excellent and rare opportunity to own a true rarity of the Korean War that is the only one in existence. The tribute to American General Walton Walker by the Korean people shows the respect they had for him and the Americans.
