Genuine Russian medal St Vladimir without the ribbon:

This medal belonged to my grandfather, Victor Alexandrovich Yakhontoff who was a Colonel in the Russian Army during the First World War. (later, a 3 Star General) He was awarded this medal for leading a multi national troop withdrawal that saved thousands of lives.Details are found in his book OVER THE DIVIDE (Coward-McCann 1936 p 126 -129) The description of the action are found in the photos along with the medal itself. The original ribbon is missing.The medal appears to be in pristine condition.The medal measures 1 3/4 top to bottom and side to side. I believe that converts to about 44.45 cm (but I confess to total ignorance about the metric system.)
