NAPOLEON FRENCH SECOND EMPIRE HEAVY CAVALERY SET HELMET and ARMOR 1870 FRANCE PRUSSIA WAR
The helmet: trooper and Nco 1858 regular pattern; polished steel bomb shell, brass «cimier» and «marmouset» , by red brush surmonted. Original sealskin band in superb condition, chin straps in leather, covered by brass « rosaceschained», with his « olive» and red feather. Original leather liner in good condition. Doskin coating lacks inside part of the visor and the neck.
On the back of the helmet bomb shell, upper the sealskin, a stamp «3» assigning the helmet to the 3rd Cuirassiers Regiment; dated 1868 (68), numbered 306 and controller mark "L".
Armor: regular 1855 pattern for trooper/Nco ; brass chained shoulders, «plastron» and «dossière» marked in the same way: Mre Impale de Chatt …. bre 1866 2° Size 2° Width N°23”.
Set in very good condition, really difficult to find as complete, with perfectly coherent markings.
During the fighting of 1870, the French riders carrying this set were illustrated in famous charges to Reichshoffen, Woerth, Morsbronn, Froeschwiller...Set of real historical interest.
